AI Music Indie
Bedroom indie pop: dreamy, slightly lo-fi, with personal everyday lyrics.
3 songs. Create one like this.
MuziAI's indie section has two AI-sung sample songs: “Phòng Trọ Một Mình” (Vietnamese lyrics, female voice, Lonely mood) and “Winterzug nach Hause” (German lyrics, male voice, Nostalgic mood). The takeaway: alongside R&B, indie has the most uniform skeleton in the library: both songs are 100 BPM, F major, exactly 74 bars, 176 and 177 seconds long, with about one chord change per bar, despite different languages, voices and moods. These figures describe MuziAI's samples, not the rules of indie music.
Measured profile
Key, tempo, bar counts and chords come from the sheet music the singing model writes for itself before singing. The comparison column is lo-fi, because indie on MuziAI is defined as dreamy, bedroom-style indie pop with a slightly lo-fi feel.
| Metric | Indie (2 songs) | Lo-fi (2 songs) |
|---|---|---|
| BPM: lowest / median / highest | 100 / 100 / 100 | 72 / 72 / 72 |
| Key | F major 2 | F major 1, F-sharp major 1 |
| Length (seconds): shortest / median / longest | 176 / 176 / 177 | 163 / 192 / 221 |
| Bars (median) | 74 | 58 |
| Chords per bar (median) | 0.99 | 0.49 |
| Melodic range (semitones, median) | 17 | 20 |
| Voice | female 1, male 1 | female 1, male 1 |
| Lyric language | Vietnamese 1, German 1 | Vietnamese 2 |
The genre description may say “slightly lo-fi”, but the numbers keep the two apart: lo-fi sits on the Slow setting at 72 BPM with the sparsest harmony in the library (0.49 chords per bar), while indie sits on Medium at 100 BPM and changes chords twice as often. Indie is actually closer to R&B, which is also 100 BPM, 0.99 chords per bar, a median of 74 bars and 176 seconds. Two genres with different names and tags share almost the same frame, which suggests that at the Medium tempo, tempo and lyric length shape a song's skeleton more than the genre label does.
How MuziAI builds this genre
Picking Indie adds “Indie pop, dreamy, jangly guitar, bedroom pop” to the style prompt. Both samples chose Layered vocals (double-tracked), then differ in instruments:
- “Phòng Trọ Một Mình”: Lonely mood (lonely, introspective, quiet), electric guitar, Synth, female voice.
- “Winterzug nach Hause”: Nostalgic mood (nostalgic, wistful, bittersweet), acoustic guitar, male voice, Medium tempo.
Inside the sample songs
Both songs follow the same section order: intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, chorus, outro. They divide the bars differently. “Winterzug nach Hause” has an intro of just one bar, so the voice comes in almost at once, but its pre-choruses run 8 bars; “Phòng Trọ Một Mình” has a 9-bar intro and 5-bar pre-choruses. The differences cancel out, and both land on 74 bars.
The harmony shares a root too. “Phòng Trọ Một Mình” loops F Dm Gm7 C Fmaj7 Dm Gm7 C, a I-vi-ii-V played twice, with Fmaj7 added the second time for a hazier colour. “Winterzug nach Hause” goes F Dm Gm C Bb C F Dm, adding the fourth degree (Bb) and dropping the seventh chords. The German song's melody is wider: 19 semitones against 15.
How to get a better song
- Want some room before the vocals? If a result jumps straight into singing like “Winterzug nach Hause”, try adding “Long instrumental intro”.
- For a dreamier colour, borrow the sheet of “Phòng Trọ Một Mình” with “Sing new lyrics to this sheet” to keep its Gm7 and Fmaj7 chords. In one MuziAI test, supplying a sheet kept the chords far closer to the original than letting the model compose from scratch.
- Write confessional lyrics in short lines. Verses in both samples last only 8 bars, about 19 seconds at 100 BPM. Four short lines about one everyday detail fit better than a long stanza. The AI lyric writer can produce a first draft.
- Any language works. The German song shares its frame with the Vietnamese one. In MuziAI's machine listening test, 96% of German lyrics were recognised against 74% of Vietnamese, so with Vietnamese lyrics listen closely and run another take if a line gets swallowed.
- For a close, soft vocal: both samples use layered vocals. For a darker, cleaner tone, “Smooth, mellow” (female) and “Soft, mellow” (male) are the two voice styles that measured that way.
Limits
Two songs is a very small sample, and their shared skeleton may belong to the Medium tempo rather than to indie, since R&B shows nearly identical numbers. There is no indie sample at 72 or 128 BPM and no duet yet. The figures come from the sheet music, so they say nothing about how jangly the guitar or how “bedroom” the mix actually sounds. Listen to both in the sample library, then create your own.
